William Horton

William made his entrance into the world in 1810 and was baptised on 22 April of that year at Aldington. He was the son of Thomas and Sarah.

On 18 September 1830, at the age of 20, he married Sarah Jane Apps at Aldington church. The witnesses were John Changford (?) and Ann Apps.

Several items of interest here. Firstly, the Census enumerator appears to have made a mistake with the names. William's wife should be Sarah Jane and his first child was presumably Eliza. Secondly, the name Aaron appears for the first time. This child apparently died young. Thirdly, Sarah Apps is obviously a relative of Sarah Jane and could be her illegitimate daughter.

The Census enumerator got things slightly wrong here. The Terry children were William's stepchildren not children-in-law.
Both Millzer and Aaron were the illegitmate children of Frances and so really ought to retain the name of Terry.
It's possible that 3 year old Frances could be Frances Elizabeth Terry, the daughter of Thomas and Frances, who was baptised at Goodnestone by Sandwich on 18 July 1858; but Goodnestone is quite a long way from Willesborough.
