Christopher's changes of occupation over the course of his life demonstrate very clearly what was happening at this point in history. He starts off as a (hand loom) weaver (parish register), but by 1837 he has become a labourer (parish register). Eventually, he manages to get a job as a power loom weaver (1851 Census), but has to give that up when he gets older and returns to being a labourer (1861 Census).

Christoper died on 25 September 1867, and was buried at St James, Haslingden (grave H66). Four years later we find Alice running a beer shop in the High Street:

It's not clear whether she took this on after the death of Christopher, or whether he was involved before his death. Alice herself died on 22 January 1877.

We next take up the story of their children, in particular, Richard.
